A Gift That Keeps Giving

If you’re celebrating a special occasion like an engagement, wedding, anniversary or birthday, why not consider asking your guests to make a donation to the Gidget Foundation in lieu of gifts?

It’s the perfect way to celebrate that special milestone, and at the same time support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents. Simply email fundraising@gidgetfoundation.org.au to detail your celebration and we’ll be in touch!

“I was introduced to the Gidget Foundation by my obstetrician Vijay Roach when I was pregnant with my first child. I was shocked and saddened to hear Gidget’s story. Perinatal anxiety and depression is a cause I had heard little to nothing about and so, when planning my baby shower I decided that I would ask my guests to donate to the foundation in lieu of gifts. In doing this I was able to do two things, raise money and most importantly raise awareness and get people talking about the mental health of new parents. Most of my guests had never heard of this cause and were very happy to contribute and learn more via a small leaflet I handed out. Many of them continued the conversation with their friends and families. The amount of money I raised wasn’t enormous but the impact of opening up a dialogue on a topic otherwise unspoken about was far-reaching.

“When we found out we were expecting our fourth daughter, to donate to a charity rather than receive gifts was a no brainer. It felt the right thing to do when we were unpacking the baby boxes and washing all the clothes we already had. We had done the same when our third daughter was born. After two daughters we simply didn’t need any more things!
Having a child makes you count your blessings. But being lucky enough to have four brings a whole new level of appreciation. We felt if we could make a difference to just one family, we may just pass a little luck onto someone else and the Gidget Foundation was the right fit. We also felt it a valuable lesson for our other daughters to learn that gaining a baby sister was more than enough reward.”
